The Art of Returning to Yourself
Have you ever noticed how easily we can become strangers to ourselves?
We wake up and begin responding—to the messages, the needs, the expectations, the responsibilities. And somewhere in the middle of doing everything that needs to be done, we may forget to ask a simple question: How am I, really?
For me, returning to yourself is not about leaving your life behind or finding a perfectly quiet moment. It is remembering that you are here, too. Your body, your feelings, your needs, your inner wisdom—they deserve a place in the conversation.
Sometimes the return begins with one conscious breath. A gentle inhale. A longer, softer exhale. A moment of noticing without judging what you discover.
There is no need to force peace or pretend that everything is fine. You can be in the middle of uncertainty and still offer yourself kindness. You can be caring for others and still choose not to abandon yourself.
This is a practice I return to often: pause, feel my feet beneath me, and ask, What is mine to carry in this moment—and what have I picked up that was never mine?
Perhaps today your return is a boundary. Perhaps it is rest. Perhaps it is allowing yourself to feel something you've been rushing past. There is no single right answer.
The beautiful thing is that returning to yourself does not require an entirely new life. It begins right where you are.
So before you move on to the next thing, take one breath with me. And quietly ask: What would it look like to honor myself today?
